Helpful Tips

Once you and your fifth-grade students have signed up for the Walk On! Challenge, try a few of the following suggestions to help you get your class excited about including exercise in their daily lives and creating a healthy lifestyle.

When you distribute Walk On! tool kits, you may want to send a letter to parents explaining the program. Check back in January for a printable form in English and Spanish.

To keep your students motivated over the long term, remind them to visit the Walk On! Web site for tips and tools that provide a step-by-step look at how much ground they're covering.

Remember, helpful content such as downloadable brochures and student tracking charts are available. Download these resources by clicking the links on the left.

When your students have completed the Challenge:

  • Ask students to add their monthly minutes and enter the total in the appropriate box on their calendars.
  • Collect all student calendars.
  • Return to the Submit Results page on the Walk On! Web site to complete your class entry. (This link will be available after February 28, 2010).
