Classroom Activities

Educators are invited to introduce Walk On! using these ideas to spark students' interest in making smart choices for healthy lifestyles.

Pick a day before the Walk On! Challenge begins in February and declare a special “Walk On! Day” for your students. Use this time to help students learn the kinds of activities that count toward the goal of 1,680 minutes for the whole month. Don’t forget to remind them what they can win by participating,

Challenge your students to try an activity they’ve never done from this list of exercise activities. Have them report back on what they chose, why they chose it and how they liked it.

Remind kids that helping their parents clean the house is not only helpful, but a great way to get some exercise. Assign 30 minutes of vigorous house cleaning each weekend day, along with another 30 minutes of a fun exercise, sport or activity.

Encourage students to use recess and lunch times as opportunities to get exercise. Reward those students who complete the most minutes of exercise before the school day is over.

In addition, teachers are encouraged to design their own classroom activities to encourage kids to Walk On! Click here to share your ideas.
