Classroom Activities

Educators are invited to introduce Walk On! using these ideas to spark students interest in making smart choices for healthy lifestyles.

Pick a day before the Walk On! Challenge begins in February and declare a special "Walk On! Day" for your students. Use this time to help students calibrate their pedometers, and don't forget to remind them what they can earn by participating.

Walk around your school grounds as a class and monitor how many steps you take – beforehand take a class poll to see who can guess how far you'll go.

Organize a playground clean-up and measure students' steps along the way.

Ask students to wear their pedometers all day and offer a reward to the student with the most steps at the end of the day.

Subject-specific classroom activity ideas are available in the Walk On! for All Ages section.

In addition, teachers are encouraged to design their own classroom activities to encourage kids to Walk On! Click here to share your ideas.
