What do I get if I walk 10,000 steps every day during the month of February?
For starters, you will get a tool kit to help you keep track of all your steps every day. In the tool
kit is a pedometer that you should put on as soon as you get up every day. Every fifth-grader who
participates will receive a trendy Walk On! bracelet. Fifth-graders who successfully complete the
Challenge by walking 10,000 steps every day during February will be eligible to win one of four Wii Fits
and one of 40 iPod Shuffles. And, the school with the highest percentage of participants will receive
a $2,500 grant toward
a special fitness-oriented activity. TOP

Why 10,000 steps?
Several national organizations, including National Institutes of Health and the President’s Council on
Physical Fitness and Sports cite 10,000 steps or 60 minutes as reasonable daily goals. TOP

What if my pedometer gets lost or broken?
If you lose your pedometer or if it stops working, you can still participate in the Walk On! Challenge.
Just count the minutes you spend walking each day, instead of your steps. Your daily Walk On! Challenge
goal will be 60 minutes, instead of 10,000 steps. TOP

You will be surprised at the number of steps you already walk every day. You walk around the house and around
school right now. You walk if you play sports after school or on the weekends. Now, you just have to keep track
